My Mission: As a school chaplain for most of my career, I have come to understand that the role of a chaplain is to provide spiritual connection for all, whatever their beliefs, whatever their doubts, whatever their religious affiliation, whatever their issues with organized religion or with God. In these years after covid I believe that a “community chaplain” is more important than ever. Many people have lost a connection to their local church; to one another; to God. People are longing to regain that connection. People are living in a desert. I offer opportunities for people to find an oasis in the desert.
Over the past 35 years serving as a pastor, chaplain and counselor has brought opportunities to be in contact with many people seeking spiritual care and support.
My main ways to provide that care are the following:
- Counseling and conversation: Coffee or lunch just about any day of the week is a great way to connect.
- Office meetings for couples or individuals who would like to talk more privately.

Global Travel
10 years ago Steve introduced his first trip to the Holy Land with students from Lovett. Since that time he has led hundreds of travelers (students and adults) to Israel and Egypt. These trips bring the Bible to life in addition to offering opportunities to people to connect with others seeking to grow in their faith.

Back Nine Men’s Ministry
5 years ago, in response to what could be called a crisis among men in the second half of life, we started a men’s ministry called Back Nine. Back Nine is an effort to connect men with one another, encouraging intentional community. Our motto is “walking with other men through the second half of life.” Our desire is to see that God has a purpose for us in the second half of our lives. We have a gift we can give the world; a gift that our age, wisdom and experience affords us.

Weddings & Premarital Counseling
Performing well over a hundred weddings over my years in ministry and I also enjoy nothing more than sharing in the biggest day of your life. There are typically 3 premarital counseling sessions before the ceremony. The earlier you reach out, the better the chance that I will be available.
